The expectations for Fernando were high, as he had demonstrated amazing skills right away during the interview stage, and shortly after joining Smily, he became the tech lead of the team responsible for building the robust integration with Airbnb and Vrbo, achieving great results (e.g. Airbnb Preferred Partnership) while being heavily constrained in terms of resources and navigating between many important initiatives and still managing to deliver. Fernando had a chance to work within a distributed system with a heavy usage of Kubernetes, RabbitMQ, Kafka and overall microservices architecture and he demonstrated a great capacity to learn new architecture and quickly became comfortable with all the complexity of the system. Fernando will for sure be a great addition to any engineering team looking for someone who can do more with less.
He’s got great skills in Ruby on Rails, and his knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes came in clutch a couple of times. I learned some cool tricks from him, especially when it came to dockerizing our local environment. Fernando’s mix of technical know-how and willingness to jump in and lead made a huge difference on the team. I’d happily work with him again anytime.
